Important Flu Clinic Update:
Dear Patients ,
We have been informed of a World Wide shortage of Influenza Vaccinations & have therefore taken the decision to postpone the booking of any further clinics at present due to uncertainty that we will have adequate stock to vaccinate booked patients. We understand that patients are keen to get the Flu vaccine this year and will keep you updated via our website as this situation progresses. The flu booking line has been temporarily closed.
Vere Foster Medical Practice Flu Campaign Information:
This year for your safety and staff safety our flu clinics will be held differently.
- Patients will receive a text message invitation to contact the practice to make an appointment for their flu vaccination. It is important to note that some patients may have a parent or carers number linked to their notes however the invitation is only for the eligible patient: See link for details https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/who-should-have-flu-vaccine/
If you are eligible for the flu vaccination and as of the 21st September have not received a text message invitation do not fret simply follow the directions below:
What YOU can expect when you attend your appointment:
- Flu clinics will be held at our main site in Sandyrow as it offers more space to safely deliver the vaccine programme at this time & can facilitate a one way system.
- Every four patients will be allocated a ten minute appointment slot during which there will be enough staff to vaccinate each patient, clean and sanitise the area once the patient has exited in preparation for the next patients.
- Patients will enter via the front door of the practice and exit via the back door , Patients will be required to sanitise their hands on entry & Face coverings should be worn.
- Your vaccine will be administered in our waiting area which has been set up to ensure social distancing can be maintained.
- Staff will be wearing PPE
- Staff cannot deal with any other queries during this clinic and as refusal often offends would like to stress that this appointment is for flu vaccination only.
- Only the patients being given their flu vaccination within their time slot will be permitted entry to the practice.
What WE expect from the Patient attending their appointment:
- If you or any member of your house hold are experiencing a new or persistent cough , fever, loss of smell or taste you MUST NOT attend for your vaccination.
- Patients are required to wear a face covering when on the practice premises.
- Please do not arrive early for your appointment as this may cause congestion outside the practice and entry will not be permitted until your allocated time slot. Arrive on time.
- If you arrive late for your appointment you will be unable to get your vaccination and will have to re-book your appointment via the flu booking line.
- Only patients with a booked appointment will be given their flu vaccination during these clinics, Patients are not permitted to walk into the clinic.
- Patients attending for their flu vaccination should attend alone with the exception of parents or carers.
- It would be very much appreciated if patients could remove coats before entering the practice and ensure easy access to their upper arm area to allow the vaccine to be administered quickly and efficiently.
- Patients should refrain from gathering outside the practice in groups.

Have you got your face covering ?
Important information for invited visitors to the Practice:
Presently entrance to the practice is granted by invitation only and we are asking that all patients and visitors to the practice wear a face covering when coming onto the practice premises. Staff will also be wearing face coverings for your protection.
PPE supplied to the practice is for the use of clinicians only we are therefore not in a position to supply you with a face covering when attending the practice so it is important that obtain one yourself.
Face coverings both disposable and reusable are now available in the majority of local shops and clothing stores.

Repeat Prescription line information UPDATE:
The Repeat Prescription line is now back in operation between the hours of 1pm - 3pm Monday - Friday. This line is for repeat prescription requests only.
Since the emergence of Covid 19 in Northern Ireland there has been a noticeable rise in individuals experiencing difficulties with their mental health. This is an extremely challenging time for us all and we have all had to make major changes to the way in which we conduct our every day living , working & have had to adapt how we conduct ourselves socially. Important Information for Community Pharmacies
As of the 2nd April 2020 The Vere Foster Medical Practice now has a dedicated pharmacy line.
This line is in operation from 8.30am -12p & 2pm-5pm Monday to Friday with the exception of a Wednesday when the line will be in operation from 8.30am-12pm.
Pharmacies are encouraged to avail of our online reordering facility for repeat prescription however if this option is not possible our staff are on standby to assist you, this line is for general queries also.
If you are a community Pharmacy and would like access to this line please email Laura.Dowds.Z00101@gp.hscni.net and the contact number will be forwarded to you promptly.
Reminder to Community Pharmacies that prescription collection can be facilitated between 10am & 2pm Monday - Friday. This is to allow staff administrative time to efficiently make a record of prescriptions leaving the practice. Guidance for drivers including a separate mobile number to ring upon arrival is available at the entrance to the practice.

To help reduce the potential spread of infection, we are advising all patients to phone before coming to the surgery.
When you ring us, our staff will ask you some questions to determine your condition. Some of these questions may include if you have a temperature or a cough. These questions help us to determine the best action to take but also helps protect our staff and other vulnerable patients.
If appropriate, you may receive a call back from a GP or be given other relevant advice.

As of the 13th March 2020 ALL APPOINTMENTS - will be triaged by the GPs. If you feel you need seen URGENTLY, please contact the Surgery on 02890 323973 and the Receptionist will take your contact details and a GP will assess your illness and respond appropriately. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY UNLESS INSTRUCTED TO DO SO.
As of the 16th March 2020 access to the Practice will be granted only to those patients instructed to attend by the GP. During this challenging time patients are not to attend the practice to order medication and should do so via telephone or via our online reordering facility.
I must reiterate to all patients that these measures are temporary. We value all of our patients and have put procedures in place to limit the spread of infection.
On the 13th March 2020 nominated pharmacy settings will be reactivated , this means that your prescription will go directly to your chosen pharmacy so there is no need to come to the practice to collect. If you have never indicated a pharmacy please discuss this with the receptionist who will advise you appropriately.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION IN RELATION TO NEW REGISTRATIONS
As of the 2nd September 2019 our practice list will close temporarily. This means that we will not be in a position to accept any new patients onto our practice list. Our Practice list will re-open on 1st May 2020
Updated Telephone information
The practice can be contacted via telephone weekdays between the hours of 8.30 am - 12pm & 2pm -6pm with the exception of a Wednesday when the Practice closes half day. If you are calling the practice between the hours of 12pm - 2pm with a medical emergency that cannot wait listen carefully for the emergency line number which will enable you to contact the practice. (this number is subject to change so please do not save it)

We no longer provide an open access treatment room facility.

How we use your medical records
The use and sharing of personal information forms an essential part of the provision of health and care, benefiting individual patients, often necessary for the effective functioning of health and social services and sometimes necessary in the public interest. Nevertheless your doctor has a strong legal and ethical duty to protect patient information and all information you share with your doctor is kept confidential.
This practice is committed to observing the laws on data protection and confidentiality concerning your medical record and all uses and sharing of your information.
We share information about you with health professionals who are involved in providing you with care and treatment. This is on a need to know basis and, normally, event by event.
Some of your health information (including your name, address, allergies and medications) is automatically copied to the Northern Ireland Electronic Care Record.
Some information about you is shared with national screening campaigns such as Flu and Diabetes eye screening.
Information about you in non-identifiable form is used to manage the NHS and make payments.
Information about you in non-identifiable form is used to check the quality of care provided by the NHS.
Information about you in non-identifiable form may be used for medical research. Where identifiable information may be required we will first seek you consent.
We will share information when the law requires us to do, for instance when we are inspected or reporting certain illnesses or safeguarding vulnerable people.
We use a third party group for postage. Postage is collected daily in sealed envelopes and delivered for posting. The same group provide a courier service transporting prescriptions between our two sites. These prescriptions are secured in a sealed carrier. We share no information with this group apart from your address details which are on any correspondence addressed to you.
